Agartala, Oct 13:Tripura’s Khowai district police have stepped up security arrangements for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, with around 1,100 personnel to be deployed to maintain law and order, manage crowds and regulate traffic, a senior officer said on Tuesday.
A total of 408 Durga Pujas will be organised across the district this year, compared with 397 in 2025, marking an increase of 11 celebrations, Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadishwar Reddy said.
The district police have intensified preparations in view of the increase in the number of pujas, focusing on the safety of devotees, crowd management and the prevention of untoward incidents during the festivities.
“Arrangements are being made to deploy around 1,100 personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), police and civil police to maintain law and order during the festival,” Reddy said.
The personnel will be deployed at strategic locations, including puja pandals and other crowded areas, to ensure the smooth movement of visitors and enable a prompt response to security-related incidents, he said.
The district police have also directed all puja committees and clubs to engage their own volunteers to assist in crowd management and regulate the movement of devotees at pandals.
The volunteers will coordinate with police personnel and help maintain discipline, particularly at venues expected to attract large gatherings during the festive period.
CCTV surveillance will be another key component of the security plan. All puja committees have been instructed to ensure that cameras installed at pandals remain operational round the clock throughout the celebrations.
The measure is aimed at monitoring activities, identifying suspicious movements and enabling police to respond promptly to any security concerns.
Traffic management will also receive special attention, as the festive season generally witnesses a significant increase in the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Police personnel will focus on preventing congestion, facilitating the orderly movement of traffic and keeping roads accessible for emergency services.
The police administration has stressed the importance of coordination among law enforcement personnel, puja organisers, volunteers and the general public to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Durga Puja is celebrated with enthusiasm across Tripura, with community pandals, cultural programmes and religious rituals attracting large numbers of devotees.
The Khowai police are working to ensure adequate security and effective crowd management at all 408 puja venues, officials said.
