According to the complaint, the minor, who had eloped with Bikas Debnath two and a half years ago and later married him, faced physical and mental abuse during their marriage. The situation reportedly worsened after the birth of their daughter. The complaint alleges that during an argument, Bikas poured kerosene on his wife while she was cooking and set her on fire. Neighbors intervened upon hearing her screams and rushed her to the hospital.

The victim’s parents, unable to afford prolonged medical treatment, brought her back to their home, where she continues to recover. The case was escalated to the district police superintendent and the state police IGP, leading to the arrest of Bikas Debnath. He was presented in court on Friday.

The sub-district police officer confirmed that the arrest was based on the allegations of attempted murder made by the housewife. The investigation is ongoing.
