Agartala: July 27: A tragic incident has occurred in Sonamura Rabindranagar, where a 24-year-old housewife, Punam Majumdar, has reportedly taken her own life due to alleged domestic violence. According to her family, Punam’s husband, Rajib Dev, a government employee, and her in-laws subjected her to continuous torture for dowry, leading her to this extreme step.

Punam, originally from Udaypur, consumed poison at her in-laws’ residence on Friday. Despite being rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to GB Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. Her family has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of abetting her suicide.

Punam’s mother claimed that the demands for dowry had been escalating since her marriage, with her in-laws allegedly torturing her both physically and mentally. Even after the birth of her two-and-a-half-year-old son, the harassment reportedly continued. The family also alleged that Punam’s in-laws did not bring her son to the hospital to see his mother, nor did any family members visit her during her critical condition.

These allegations have sparked significant concern and discussion within the community.
