Agartala: July 29: For the first time, a meeting on foreign relations was held in Tripura, organized by the State Home Department with the cooperation of the Ministry of External Affairs. The event took place at the Agartala State Guest House and was attended by External Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Dharana Banerjee, State Home Secretary PK Chakraborty, State Police Intelligence Chief, and other top officials.
Joint Secretary Dharana Banerjee highlighted the significance of this inaugural meeting in Tripura and discussed various aspects of foreign relations. Ankan Banerjee, another Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the issue of young people being lured to countries like Thailand with promises of easy money, only to be smuggled to other countries and mistreated. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between the central and state governments to address these challenges and expedite the repatriation process for deceased individuals abroad.
Discussions also focused on reducing the time required to bring back the bodies of deceased individuals from abroad, aiming to shorten the process to two or three days. The Ministry of External Affairs is working on digitizing many areas to enhance its awareness and efficiency in handling foreign affairs.
The State Home Secretary mentioned that the meeting also touched upon the issue of illegal entries from Bangladesh into India, noting that such incidents are not new but require continued attention. Significant aspects of these discussions will be addressed in future meetings.
