The Agartala Regional Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organized a blood donation camp at Chatra-Juba Bhavan on Sunday, drawing enthusiastic participation from volunteers and supporters. The programme aimed not only to encourage the life-saving act of blood donation but also to strengthen the state’s blood banks, which often face shortages during emergencies.
Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) senior leader Jitendra Choudhury attended the event as a guest and spoke to the media about the larger social relevance of such initiatives. While acknowledging the significance of donating blood, he also called attention to the deeper societal issues that continue to affect the lives of young people across Tripura.
Choudhury stated that although blood donation is a noble deed, it is equally important to focus on the prevailing socio-political climate, where certain groups and systems exploit the youth for personal or political gain. This manipulation, he said, often results in violence, unrest, and unnecessary bloodshed—an issue that needs urgent attention.
He further noted that incidents of blood loss have become alarmingly frequent in the state, occurring almost on a daily basis due to road accidents, clashes, and other untoward events. In this context, maintaining an adequate supply of blood in the state’s blood banks becomes essential for saving lives.
Commending DYFI’s efforts, Choudhury said that such initiatives not only promote humanitarian values but also directly address the growing demand for blood in government and private healthcare facilities. He praised the volunteers and organizers for stepping forward to serve society and encouraged more youth organizations to undertake similar activities.
The event concluded with DYFI leaders reaffirming their commitment to continue organizing socially responsible programmes aimed at supporting public welfare and promoting unity among the youth.
