Agartala: Youths are the nation’s builders of tomorrow, and if politics does not receive the participation of honest and educated individuals, democracy will become weak.

This was informed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath today while addressing the State Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 at the Tripura Legislative Assembly in Agartala.

The Minister said that India gained independence in 1947, and by 2047 the country should aim to become number one in the world.

“Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat. Only 22 years are left, so we must create a strong foundation. I have not come here merely to deliver a speech but to ignite a fire a fire of thoughts, courage, and responsibility. Whether it was during the freedom struggle or for social reforms, young people have always played a crucial role. Today also a new era has begun. We have many enemies, but the major ones are poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and discrimination. However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and discrimination have significantly declined,” he said.

The Minister also said that India is the largest democratic country in the world, but democracy is not limited to casting votes. Democracy is the practice of conscience , respecting different opinions and having the courage to stand for the truth.

“For us, the nation comes first. This is the country of Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Gautam Buddha, and Mahatma Gandhi. We believe in peace, but if someone points a finger at us, we know how to respond because Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the nation. The upcoming generation will lead the country. Development does not only mean a rise in GDP; it also means providing laptops to students in villages, ensuring financial stability for farmers, and protecting women,” the Minister said.

He further said that today India stands on the global stage as a nation with a strong youth demographic dividend.

“Our main strength is our human resources, which are unmatched anywhere in the world. This is a blessing for our country. But our youth must be guided by morality, integrity, a spirit of research and inquiry, and humanity. If politics does not receive the participation of honest and educated individuals, democracy will become weak. Do not fear politics. Today’s youths are the nation’s builders of tomorrow. Youth should participate in every aspect of society,” he added.

During the event, Speaker-in-Charge Ram Prasad Paul, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, and MLA Chitta Ranjan Debbarma were also present.
