Drug Peddlers Arrested by Locals in Chakma Ghat

Agartala: July 29: In a significant development, three drug peddlers were arrested by local residents in the Chakma Ghat area under Teliamura police station. The incident has caused a sensation in the locality. The residents later handed the suspects over to the police.

According to locals, Goni Mia, a notorious figure, had been operating a drug business in the area for a long time. Despite previous police raids and arrests, his activities continued. Witnessing the ongoing drug trade, the locals decided to take action and jointly raided Goni Mia’s house, apprehending him along with three other youths involved in drug activities. The suspects were handed over to Teliamura police station.

Teliamura police station OC Rajiv Debnath confirmed the arrests, stating that the police responded immediately upon receiving the news. The arrested individuals, including Goni Mia, Hero Devbarma, Boyar Devbarma, and Isuha Marak, were taken to the police station for further investigation.

OC Debnath also mentioned that Goni Mia had previously been accused in a rape case involving the gang rape of a tribal girl in the Teliamura sub-division.
