Agartala: August 13: The Dharmanagar Congress on Wednesday organized a rally to draw attention to a broad range of national concerns. Party supporters marched through the town, distributing leaflets to shopkeepers and pedestrians, while questioning the policies and performance of the central government over the past eleven years.

Local Congress leaders addressed the media, outlining grievances such as rising unemployment, surging prices of essential commodities, social injustice, and violence against women—issues they claimed were ignored in the Prime Minister’s “Mann Ki Baat” broadcasts.

The Congress leaflet raised questions over the Operation Sindoor ceasefire, alleging it was influenced by U.S. pressure after a statement by former President Donald Trump. It also denounced growing economic inequality, the concentration of wealth among the top 1 percent, and the government’s failure to curb inflation.

Accusations of double standards were made regarding tribal rights, particularly on enhancing ADC powers and adopting the Roman script for Kokborok. The party condemned rising religious polarization, alleged harassment of Corporal Sophia, and misuse of agencies like the ED and CBI to suppress opposition voices. The so-called “BJP washing machine” phenomenon—where allegedly corrupt leaders join the BJP and are deemed “clean”—was also mocked.

Other concerns included the lack of SC, ST, and OBC job reservations, unfilled government vacancies, surging national debt from ₹54 lakh crore in 2014 to ₹210 lakh crore in 2025, and ineffective implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill. Congress demanded a caste-based census on the Telangana model, criticized the renaming of old welfare schemes without launching new ones, and decried the pending 22 percent dearness allowance.

The rally ended with an appeal to citizens to defend unity, harmony, and democracy by voting out the BJP-led government in the upcoming elections.
