Agartala, May 6: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) has initiated a phase of introspection, holding a crucial state committee meeting in Agartala on Wednesday to assess its performance in the recently concluded Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections and the Dharmanagar Assembly bypoll. The meeting also marked the beginning of preparations for the upcoming village council elections, which the party considers vital to rebuilding its grassroots base.

Leader of Opposition and CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury addressed the media after the session, acknowledging that the party’s recent electoral outcomes fell short of expectations. He emphasized that the CPIM has a long-standing practice of conducting comprehensive post-election reviews, focusing on both victories and defeats. This time, the exercise will center on identifying weaknesses in organizational strategy, political messaging, and campaign execution.

“We must understand where we faltered and analyze the strategies adopted by our opponents. These findings should be taken back to the people,” Chaudhury said. He noted that the review process goes beyond electoral numbers and aims to restore confidence among party workers and supporters.

According to party sources, the meeting involved detailed discussions on internal coordination, cadre mobilization, and communication gaps that may have impacted outreach efforts. Senior leaders highlighted the need to reinforce ideological clarity while also adapting to the evolving political landscape in Tripura, where competing parties have steadily expanded their influence.

Looking ahead, Chaudhury identified the upcoming village council elections as a decisive opportunity for the CPIM to regain lost ground. He stated that the party would intensify its grassroots engagement, strengthen local organizational structures, and better equip its workers to address key public concerns.

The CPIM plans to focus on issues such as livelihood opportunities, governance, and social welfare while reconnecting with voters at the village level. With renewed efforts and strategic recalibration, the party hopes to stage a meaningful comeback and reassert its presence in Tripura’s political landscape.
