Agartala, Sept 03: In a surprise move, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) has decided to contest the Rajya Sabha seat, despite the Congress party’s boycott of the elections. Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury clarified that the CPIM’s alliance with Congress was limited to seat adjustments and not a political alliance.

Chowdhury emphasized that the CPIM’s decision to contest the seat is a fight against the BJP’s policies and ideology. “Our participation in this election is not about victory or defeat, but about opposing the BJP’s ideology,” he said.

In a veiled criticism of Congress, Chowdhury noted that while Rahul Gandhi has called for the overthrow of the BJP to restore democracy, the Congress party has chosen to boycott the Tripura Rajya Sabha elections.

The CPIM’s move is seen as a bold step in the fight against the BJP’s dominance in the state. The results of the Rajya Sabha by-election are expected to be announced soon.
