Agartala, July 9: Raising serious concerns over the law and order situation in Tripura, CPIM Politburo member and state secretary Jiten Choudhury has written a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, citing a surge in attacks on opposition workers and political events. The letter was submitted on Tuesday and accuses the ruling BJP and its ally Tipra Motha of orchestrating a series of violent incidents across the state.

While the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, has claimed normalcy in the state, Choudhury pointed to a series of attacks from mid-June to early July 2025 that suggest otherwise. According to the CPIM, these incidents include assaults on CPI(M) and Congress meetings—even in the presence of police—vandalism of opposition party offices and private residences, cancellation of previously approved political events, and physical attacks on elected representatives. Local CPIM leaders have also reportedly received threats.

The letter accuses sections of the police force of failing to maintain neutrality and alleges that miscreants are being allowed to act with impunity. Choudhury said such inaction not only undermines democratic values but also tarnishes the image of the police, especially a force recently honoured with the President’s Colour for exemplary service.

Demanding immediate intervention, the CPI(M) urged the Chief Minister to ensure that police enforce the law fairly and take strict action against offenders, irrespective of their political affiliations. “Public confidence in the rule of law is eroding,” Choudhury warned, adding that only impartial policing and swift justice can restore faith in the state’s democratic framework.

The CPI(M) also warned that continued bias and political intimidation could further polarize the state and threaten its constitutional order.
