Agartala: April 20: In a significant development, the Hon’ble Court has approved a three-day police remand for an individual arrested on charges of forgery. The accused, Sajal Das (36), was apprehended by Khoai Thana based on a written complaint filed by Uppal Chakma, the Clerk of Khoai District Court. The allegations stem from Sajal Das’s purported use of fake documents as a government employee to secure the release of an accused individual on bail in an NDPS case at Khoai Jail.
The Khoai police station acted promptly, registering a case against Sajal Das under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 193, 419, 420, 468, and 120(B). Today, the arrested person appeared before the Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate, where the investigating officer sought a three-day police remand to delve into eight specific matters related to the case. The Court granted this application and instructed the investigating officer to present Sajal Das, along with the case CD, on April 23.
Notably, Yadav Shahu, a Bihar resident arrested in an NDPS case by the Teliyamura police station, currently remains in custody at Khowai Jail under orders from the Khowai District Court. During a recent court hearing on April 18, the defense lawyer successfully secured an order for the release of Jadav Shahu on bail. However, the condition stipulated that the surety must be a regular government servant.
Yesterday, on Friday, April 19, Sajal Das, through legal representation, identified himself as a clerk from the Teliyamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, discrepancies in the submitted documents raised suspicions among court officials. As the investigation unfolds, questions surrounding Sajal Das’s role and the authenticity of the documents remain at the forefront of this case.
