Agartala, June 25: Tripura BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee on Tuesday strongly criticized the Congress for decades of neglect toward the Northeastern region since India’s independence. Addressing a press conference, Bhattacharjee claimed that successive Congress governments failed to prioritize infrastructure, economic growth, and communication development in the region.
“In stark contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has consistently focused on uplifting the Northeast, turning long-standing neglect into visible progress,” he stated.
Highlighting recent achievements, Bhattacharjee proudly announced that Tripura has become the third fully literate state in India. He emphasized that literacy under the Modi government goes beyond reading and writing, now including essential skills such as arithmetic, digital literacy, and financial awareness—aligning with global standards.
He particularly praised the efforts of the volunteers, teachers, and students involved in the Ullas–New India Literacy Campaign, who have worked selflessly to educate citizens aged 15 and above who had previously remained illiterate. “These individuals, without any financial incentive, are true soldiers of literacy,” he said, expressing gratitude for their dedication.
The BJP state president credited Prime Minister Modi and Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha for their vision and leadership, which have accelerated the state’s transformation across sectors.
Bhattacharjee reiterated that no other Prime Minister before Modi had paid consistent attention to the Northeast. “While others ignored the region, Prime Minister Modi made it a priority, frequently visiting and implementing policies aimed at long-term development,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to realizing the vision of a “Developed India” and a “Developed Tripura,” with inclusive growth reaching every corner of the state.
