Agartala: April 05: Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has formally requested the Chief Secretary to extend “Child Care Leave” (CCL) to contractual female government employees in the state. In his letter, Mr. Barman highlighted the challenges faced by these employees, particularly mothers, in balancing their professional and maternal responsibilities.

Currently, permanent female employees are entitled to CCL, which allows them to provide essential care to their children without compromising their careers. However, contractual female employees, despite their significant contributions to various government departments, are not granted this leave. Mr. Barman emphasized that this disparity places undue strain on contractual employees, often forcing them to take unpaid leave or resign, leading to financial hardships.

He underscored the importance of maternal care for newborns and advocated for a fair and equitable working environment for all female employees. Mr. Barman urged the authorities to address this issue and take necessary steps to ensure that contractual female employees are also granted CCL, recognizing their role as primary caregivers.
