Agartala: August 07: The Congress has accused the state’s “double engine” government of surrendering to mafias and criminals. In a press conference held at the state Congress headquarters on Wednesday, party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty alleged that the government is colluding with land mafias, coal mafias, drug cartels, and other criminal elements.

Chakraborty claimed that a violent clash over money occurred last Saturday between groups aligned with the state’s Chief Minister and a local representative in Bishalgarh. Both groups’ leaders were allegedly summoned to Agartala in an attempt to suppress the incident. However, Chakraborty expressed concern that leaders are now being targeted, assaulted, and persecuted by these mafias, leading to a “disgraceful chapter” in the state’s history.

The Congress spokesperson further stated that Bishalgarh MLA Sushanta Dev has expressed concerns about his safety on social media, fearing for his life. Chakraborty questioned where the “double engine” government is taking the state and strongly criticized its actions.

Other Congress leaders, including state vice president Shantiranjan Debnath, were also present at the press conference.
