CM Saha: Tripura to establish Women’s University soon

Agartala, Sep 5: In a significant step towards women’s empowerment and educational development, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday announced that the state government has initiated the process of setting up a Women’s University in the state.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, made the announcement while addressing the 64th State-level Teachers’ Day celebration at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. He emphasized that the government is consistently working to strengthen educational infrastructure and create new opportunities for students, especially girls.

Highlighting existing initiatives, the Chief Minister said, “We have waived all types of fees for girl students in government degree colleges and distributed scooters under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana to encourage higher education among girls. Establishing a Women’s University will be a major step forward in empowering women and ensuring their greater participation in higher studies.”

Dr. Saha noted that the peaceful environment prevailing in Tripura has attracted students from other states and even from neighboring Bangladesh to pursue education in the state’s institutions. He added that the government is committed to creating a more vibrant academic atmosphere by promoting innovation, research, and skill-based learning.

Teachers, he stressed, play a pivotal role in shaping society and building future citizens. On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Dr. Saha paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s former President and eminent educationist, whose birthday is celebrated as Teachers’ Day across the country. “Teachers are the true nation-builders. Their guidance, dedication, and commitment are crucial in molding young minds,” he said.

The Chief Minister also underlined the government’s focus on modernizing classrooms, promoting digital education, and ensuring holistic growth for students. He assured that efforts would continue to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in schools and colleges across Tripura.

The event witnessed the participation of teachers, academicians, students, and government officials who celebrated the contribution of educators to society. Awards and recognitions were also conferred upon distinguished teachers for their exemplary service in the education sector.

Dr. Saha concluded by reiterating that education remains the cornerstone of Tripura’s development vision, and initiatives such as the proposed Women’s University would pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for the state.
