Agartala, May 17: In a move aimed at boosting Tripura’s tourism sector, State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday announced that the Central Government has approved the establishment of a modern recreational park modeled on Kolkata’s Nicco Park. The park will be set up at Sachindranagar in the Jirania subdivision of West Tripura district.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Minister Chowdhury in Jirania. He stated that the project is part of a broader initiative by the state government to develop the tourism industry and improve local infrastructure.
The minister emphasized that the upcoming recreational park will offer a variety of entertainment options and modern facilities, attracting both local residents and tourists. “The park will not only enhance the state’s tourism appeal but will also create employment opportunities for the local population,” said Chowdhury. He added that the project would stimulate trade and business, contributing to the economic development of the region.
Highlighting the park’s potential, the minister said that it would follow the successful model of Nicco Park in Kolkata, known for its family-friendly attractions and eco-friendly recreational environment.
The meeting was attended by key local and departmental officials including Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Pritam Debnath, Jirania Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Ratan Kumar Das, Ranirbazar Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Prabir Kumar Das, West Tripura Zilla Parishad Member Shivayan Das, Tourism Department MD Prashant Badal Negi, and Joint Director Aniruddha Roy, among others.
The project is expected to be a significant milestone in Tripura’s tourism development strategy and is part of the government’s vision to transform the state into a major tourist destination in the Northeast.
