Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has praised the Union Budget 2026, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as a “game-changer” set to accelerate India’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Addressing party workers and leaders in Majlishpur Assembly, Chowdhury described the Budget as the third full-fledged welfare-oriented financial plan of the BJP-led NDA government. He said it embodies the principles of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, promoting inclusive growth and strengthening India’s self-reliance.

Highlighting the Finance Minister’s focus on self-reliance, Chowdhury noted the Budget would offer “major relief for the middle-class salaried population” while enhancing national production, energy security, and reducing import dependence.

Key initiatives include:

  • Education to Employment: Formation of a high-powered committee to prioritize services sector growth and assess the impact of AI and new technologies.

  • New Income Tax Law: Effective April 1, with extended filing deadlines—July 31 for individuals, August 31 for unaudited businesses and trusts.

  • Healthcare & Social Infrastructure: Medical tourism hubs, caregiver support, and women’s hostels in every district.

  • Education Expansion: Construction of 16,000 new secondary schools nationwide.

  • Women Entrepreneurship: New schemes to support women entrepreneurs, building on the Lakhpati Didi program.

  • Banking Sector: High-level committee to strengthen financial security and customer service.

  • Price Relief: Reduced costs for cancer and diabetes drugs, solar equipment, and study abroad expenses; gold prices fell by Rs 4,445 per 10 grams.

Chowdhury also highlighted Bharat Vistar, an AI-based tool to modernize agriculture and boost rural productivity. He said the Budget reflects the government’s commitment to uplifting ordinary citizens, creating opportunities for marginalized communities, and accelerating India’s development. Local BJP workers welcomed the reforms, noting their potential to directly benefit households across Tripura.
