Agartala, Oct 19 — The Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura, in two separate operations on Sunday, apprehended 21 illegal infiltrators, including 11 Bangladeshi nationals and 10 Rohingya migrants, among them five children, officials said.

A BSF spokesman informed that amid heightened security measures during the festive season, the BSF Tripura Frontier has intensified its vigil along the India–Bangladesh border. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, BSF teams conducted coordinated operations at different locations across the state.

In the first operation, BSF personnel at Agartala Railway Station intercepted 11 Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally entered India and were attempting to travel to other parts of the country by train. In another operation in North Tripura district, alert troops detained 10 Rohingya migrants, including women and children, who were attempting to cross over to Bangladesh.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the Rohingyas had travelled from Delhi and Jammu and intended to reach Moulvibazar in Bangladesh through Tripura. The official said the operations reflect the BSF’s continued commitment to curbing illegal infiltration, human trafficking, and trans-border crimes, particularly during the ongoing festive period.

Since the outbreak of violence in Bangladesh in mid-2024 and the subsequent fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government on August 5, 2024, the BSF has significantly strengthened its border domination and surveillance to prevent illegal movements and smuggling activities.

Tripura shares an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh, most of which is fenced except for a few vulnerable stretches. The geographical positioning of the state—surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides—makes it particularly susceptible to cross-border migration and related crimes.

The BSF reiterated its resolve to maintain strict border vigilance and ensure national security in the sensitive frontier state.
