Agartala: Feb 25: The Tripura BJP has strongly protested against the CPI(M)’s criticism of the central government’s financial assistance to the flood-affected state. On Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty held a press conference at the party’s state office to express their objections. He said that the devastating flood in Tripura last August, caused by heavy rainfall, was the worst in the state’s history, affecting more than two-thirds of the population.

Chakraborty emphasized that, following the disaster, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah provided continuous support to the people of Tripura. Financial aid was offered to the state in various forms, with the central government ensuring consistent assistance. However, he pointed out that CPI(M), the principal opposition party in the state, had compared this assistance to begging, which he described as highly objectionable.

He claimed that the CPI(M)’s disparaging remarks were a result of the state’s recovery process, where people were gradually returning to normalcy. The BJP spokesperson suggested that CPI(M) could not tolerate this, as during their tenure in the Left Front government, their primary aim was to create scarcity and manipulate people into dependence, while accusing the central government of not providing support. He alleged that the CPI(M) used this approach to foster patronage and corruption.

Subrata Chakraborty condemned CPI(M)’s remarks, asserting that the party had not moved beyond its old tactics. He also acknowledged the state government’s recent decision to fill 315 vacant positions in the cabinet and thanked Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for this. He further stated that over 22,000 vacancies had been filled since the BJP came to power in Tripura, with plans to fill an additional 30,000 vacancies. He accused CPI(M) and Congress of spreading false narratives to confuse the public. The press conference was also attended by BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma.
