Agartala, March 23, Biplab Kumar Deb, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, made serious allegations against the communists, accusing them of introducing drugs into Tripura. Speaking at a booth president’s conference organized by the 9-Banamalippur Mandal, Deb asserted that the state’s residents were previously unfamiliar with substances like brown sugar and yaba tablets.

Deb emphasized the BJP’s commitment to a “Drug-Free Tripura,” a slogan that gained prominence after the party assumed power in 2018. He categorically stated that no drug dealer would be tolerated in their fight against narcotics.

As the former MLA of Banamali Pur assembly constituency, Deb recounted his journey to becoming Chief Minister in 2018, attributing his success to the blessings of the people. Now, as a Lok Sabha candidate, he aims to secure victory with the support of voters from 30 assembly constituencies.

Taking a pointed swipe at the Congress and CPM, Deb recalled the 1980 riot triggered by their politics of appeasement and betrayal. The people of Banamalippur assembly constituency bore the brunt of those tumultuous times, including the loss of area MLA Madhusudan Saha’s life. Deb wryly remarked on the recent alliance between Congress and the communists, questioning the changing tides in Tripura.

State BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya and other party leaders attended the conference, underscoring the gravity of Deb’s allegations and the party’s stance on drug eradication.
