Agartala: Political activities have intensified in janajati-dominated areas of Tripura ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections, with ruling alliance leaders stepping up outreach and attacks on opposition parties.

Speaking at a meeting of janajati community members at the BJP’s 29-Krishnapur Mandal office on Sunday, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma launched a sharp attack on the CPI(M) and Congress.

Debbarma alleged that the two parties, despite being in power in Tripura for several decades, failed to bring significant socio-economic development to tribal communities. He questioned the development record of the previous governments and said issues concerning janajati communities require greater attention at the grassroots level.

Defending the BJP-IPFT-Tipra Motha alliance for the forthcoming Village Committee elections, Debbarma said the three parties had joined hands with the objective of promoting development among janajati communities.

He alleged that the CPI(M) and Congress have attempted to use tribal-related issues for political gains and said the alliance was aimed at preventing such political exploitation.

The minister also highlighted several issues affecting tribal areas, including education, infrastructure, economic development and social progress. He stressed the need for sustained engagement with people at the grassroots and said political representatives must remain connected with local communities to understand and address their concerns.

Debbarma said development in janajati areas should focus on improving access to education, strengthening infrastructure and creating better economic opportunities for local residents.

The BJP-IPFT-Tipra Motha alliance is seeking to consolidate its position in tribal-dominated areas ahead of the Village Committee elections. The alliance partners have been conducting meetings and organisational programmes as part of their preparations for the polls.

The upcoming elections are expected to witness a close contest among the ruling alliance and opposition parties, with tribal issues, development and local governance likely to remain key campaign themes.

The meeting at the 29-Krishnapur Mandal office was attended by BJP Khowai district Yuva Morcha president Bapi Majumder, 29-Krishnapur Mandal president Dhananjay Das and other party leaders and workers.

The leaders discussed organisational activities and grassroots outreach while urging party workers to strengthen their engagement with voters ahead of the elections.

With campaigning and political mobilisation gaining momentum, parties are increasingly focusing on janajati-dominated constituencies as they prepare for the forthcoming Village Committee polls.
