Agartala, March 31:
The Tipra Motha Party has lodged an official complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) of Tripura against state minister Bikash Debbarma, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the TTAADC elections.

In its complaint, the party objected to a recent statement attributed to the minister, wherein he reportedly claimed that votes cast in favour of Tipra Motha would ultimately be transferred to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party termed the remark as “misleading” and “intended to confuse voters,” alleging that such statements could influence electoral behaviour and undermine the integrity of the democratic process.

Tipra Motha further pointed to media reports that have been widely circulated, alleging misuse of government machinery and public resources for election-related activities. According to the complaint, these actions, if proven true, would constitute a serious breach of the MCC provisions that strictly prohibit the use of official resources for campaigning or gaining electoral advantage.

The party urged the SEC to take immediate cognisance of the matter and initiate appropriate action against the minister. It also called for steps to prevent further violations, ensuring a level playing field for all political parties contesting the elections.

“The conduct of those in positions of power must strictly adhere to the guidelines laid down under the Model Code of Conduct. Any deviation not only erodes public trust but also compromises the fairness of the electoral process,” the complaint stated.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions in the run-up to the TTAADC polls, with parties increasingly trading allegations over MCC violations. The SEC is yet to issue an official response on the complaint.
