A sense of shock and concern gripped residents of South Tripura early Saturday morning after police recovered the body of a man from an auto-rickshaw parked along the Paikhola–Balutila road, under the jurisdiction of Belonia Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Hejon Debnath, though further personal details are yet to be officially disclosed.
According to preliminary information, local pedestrians noticed an unmoving person inside an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR 08 A 2655 during the early hours of the day. Suspecting something unusual, they immediately informed the police, who responded swiftly to the alert.
Sub-Inspector Rahul Jamatia, along with his team from Belonia Police Station, rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information. The police cordoned off the area to prevent crowding and to preserve potential evidence. Following standard procedure, the body was carefully removed from the vehicle and sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
A forensic team was also deployed at the scene to collect evidence and assist in determining the circumstances surrounding the death. Police officials stated that the auto-rickshaw has been taken into custody as part of the investigation and is being examined for any clues that may help reconstruct the sequence of events.
Authorities have clarified that, at this stage, the exact cause of death remains unknown. The post-mortem report is expected to play a crucial role in establishing whether the death was due to natural causes, an accident, or foul play. Investigators are examining all possible angles and have begun questioning locals and tracing the movements of the deceased prior to the incident.
Police have assured the public that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway. Further details, including the cause of death and any developments in the case, will be shared once the forensic and post-mortem reports are received.
