In a significant crackdown on organized smuggling and unaccounted wealth, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized gold biscuits and a large amount of unaccounted cash during search operations conducted in Agartala, Tripura. The operation was carried out in the Shantipara and Dhaleshwar areas of the city, according to an official press statement.

Acting on specific and credible intelligence inputs, the security forces recovered gold biscuits weighing approximately 14 kilograms, with an estimated market value of around Rs 19 crore. In addition to the gold, Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.87 crore was also seized during the operation. Officials described the recovery as one of the major seizures in recent times in the state.

The operation was part of a targeted drive aimed at curbing illegal activities such as gold smuggling and the circulation of unaccounted wealth. Sources said the action followed sustained surveillance and close coordination between Assam Rifles and the DRI, with intelligence being shared over a period of time to track the movement and storage of the contraband.

According to officials, the operation was executed with precision, leading to the successful recovery of the illegal consignments without any untoward incident. The seized gold biscuits and cash were subsequently handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and for initiating legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of law.

Authorities believe the seizure has dealt a significant blow to organized smuggling networks operating in Tripura, which shares an international border and has often been used as a transit route for illegal trade. Investigations are currently underway to trace the source of the seized gold and currency and to identify the individuals or syndicates involved in the racket.

Officials reiterated that such coordinated operations will continue in the future as part of sustained efforts to dismantle smuggling networks and strengthen economic security in the region.
