A remarkable incident took place at Bishramganj Primary Health Centre late at night when a woman, admitted with severe labor pain, safely delivered twin baby boys under challenging circumstances.
According to sources, at around 11:45 pm, Indrakanya Debbarma (35), wife of Binay Debbarma of Charilam Banshibari Sutarmura, was experiencing intense labor pain. After initial examination and primary treatment, the attending doctor advised her family members to take the patient to GBP Hospital for advanced medical care. Hearing this, Indrakanya broke down in tears, as the family is extremely poor and unable to afford treatment or transportation to a higher medical facility.
Following discussions among relatives and considering their financial hardship, at around midnight, Binay Debbarma admitted his wife to Bishramganj Primary Health Centre for delivery. Soon after admission, Indrakanya Debbarma gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
However, during post-delivery examination, the attending doctor discovered that there was another baby still in the mother’s womb. The situation became critical, especially as no sonography had been conducted earlier, leaving the medical team uncertain and concerned. Despite the challenges, with relentless effort and professional dedication, Dr. Debabir Das successfully conducted the delivery of the second baby boy.
The first newborn weighed 3 kilograms, while the second weighed 2.5 kilograms. Both babies and the mother are reported to be in stable and healthy condition.
Dr. Debabir Das informed journalists that such rare and complicated delivery cases have occurred multiple times at Bishramganj Primary Health Centre in the past as well, highlighting the commitment and capability of the medical staff despite limited resources.
Currently, the mother and her two newborn sons are doing well and are under medical observation. Expressing deep gratitude, Binay Debbarma, his wife, and their family members praised Dr. Debabir Das, senior nurse Purabi Debnath, and all the health workers of the primary health centre for their tireless service, care, and dedication, which helped save three precious lives under difficult circumstances.
