According to reports, members of the Rabindra Sangha Club were collecting donations by stopping vehicles on the national highway late Monday night. Deepak Devnath, a lorry driver heading towards Agartala, was stopped and asked for a donation. A verbal altercation ensued, and when Devnath attempted to leave, some club members allegedly assaulted him, resulting in injuries. Devnath subsequently filed a complaint at the Teliamura police station. Acting on this complaint, the police arrested two officials of the Rabindra Sangha Club.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Khowai district, Pravir Pal, stated that the district magistrate has been informed of the incident. The decision on whether the Rabindra Sangha Club will be permitted to celebrate Durga Puja this year will depend on the district magistrate’s ruling.
