Agartala, June 15:
Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday said India has emerged as a global leader in the production of several agricultural commodities, including paddy, spices, mangoes, milk, and millet, while farmers across the country are benefiting from improved income and enhanced agricultural opportunities.

Addressing a workshop on Natural Farming and the ongoing ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ at Aralia under the Dukli Agricultural Sub-Division, the Minister emphasized the role of agricultural reforms and farmer-centric policies in transforming the sector. The month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan, launched on June 1, will continue until June 30 to promote awareness about crop protection and sustainable farming practices.

Speaking at the event, Nath said India has witnessed significant progress over the past decade and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for strengthening the country’s economy and agricultural sector.

“The vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ has contributed to the nation’s growth. India has moved from being one of the world’s lower-ranked economies to becoming the fourth-largest economy globally, and the goal is to make the country a leading global power by 2047,” he said.

The Minister noted that India now occupies a leading position in the production of several agricultural products, including rice, milk, spices, cardamom, chilli, turmeric, ginger, millet, cotton, and mangoes. He said advances in farming practices, improved infrastructure, and government support have helped increase productivity and strengthen the rural economy.

Highlighting Tripura’s progress, Nath said the state’s per capita income has witnessed steady growth over the years. According to him, the figure has increased from around ₹1.40 lakh before the present government assumed office to approximately ₹1.92 lakh today. He expressed confidence that sustained economic development and employment generation initiatives would further improve income levels in the coming years.

The Minister also stressed the importance of self-reliance and encouraged farmers to adopt modern and sustainable agricultural techniques to increase production and profitability. He reiterated the government’s commitment to generating employment opportunities and promoting agriculture as a key driver of economic growth.

Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, social worker Sampa Das, officials from the Agriculture Department, and local farmers attended the programme.
