Agartala: May 31: Agartala Municipal Corporation is embarking on a significant endeavor—the construction of a civil hospital. Driven by the goal of enhancing healthcare quality in the state, this initiative aims to address the growing demand for medical services. The hospital, aptly named Agartala City Hospital, will be under the management of Agartala Municipal Corporation authorities.

The decision to establish this new facility stems from the need to alleviate the burden on existing referral hospitals, namely AGMC, GB Hospital, and IGM Hospital. These institutions currently face substantial pressure due to the high volume of outpatient department (OPD) visits.

Bangladeshi national attempts escape from GB Hospital, held

Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, accompanied by doctors, recently visited the old office complex of Agartala Municipal Corporation located at Kansari Patti in the capital. During discussions with reporters, Commissioner Yadav highlighted the state government’s intention to designate GB Hospital and IGM Hospital for specialized medical services.

However, the surge in OPD cases—over 2,000 daily at GB Hospital and approximately 1,200 at IGM Hospital—has prompted the health department to explore alternatives. Consequently, plans are underway to establish a separate civil hospital dedicated to primary and secondary healthcare for city residents. This strategic move aims to ease the strain on the existing hospitals and enhance overall healthcare accessibility.
