Agartala: Agartala’s Durga Puja festivities culminated on a high note with Bijoya Dashami, and now the city eagerly anticipates the grand Mayer Gomon idol immersion carnival, scheduled for Thursday. This event brings together all the major Puja organizers of Agartala, each taking their turn in the spotlight of the colorful parade.
The significance of this carnival lies in the display of idols from the city’s prominent Puja organizers, adding an extra layer of joy to the festive season. The Agartala Municipal Corporation, a key stakeholder in the event, has been working tirelessly to ensure a seamless post-Puja celebration.
“The Agartala Municipal Corporation has taken every measure to ensure a safe and culturally enriching Durga Puja experience, showcasing the artistic enthusiasm displayed in the pandals and idol crafting. This year’s Puja unfolded without major incidents reported across the state or the urban areas of the city. The idol immersion process began on Bijoya Doshomi at Agartala Dashamighat, with 182 idols already immersed following the rituals,” Mayor Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder affirmed.
Speaking of the carnival, Majumder elaborated, “The carnival is set to enchant us on October 26 (Thursday). To date, 376 clubs have registered with us to access our services for idol immersion, and 182 have already completed the process. The remaining clubs are poised to partake in the immersion during the carnival. We have arranged cranes, laborers, women staff for traditional ululation, and about 40 drummers at the site. No private music systems will be permitted, as the Agartala Municipal Corporation has meticulously overseen all essential components. The immersion process itself takes a mere 10 to 15 minutes.”
Mayor Majumder also conducted a site inspection where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will officially launch the event at Agartala City Center. “The Chief Minister and other senior cabinet members will grace the event with their presence. We anticipate a crowd of over one lakh people at the carnival right here in Agartala city,” he added. The excitement is palpable as the city prepares to immerse itself in the colorful splendor of Mayer Gomon.
