Agartala, June 27: Agartala joined the nationwide celebrations of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra on Friday, with hundreds of devotees gathering at the ISKCON temple to mark the auspicious occasion with spiritual fervor and traditional grandeur.
The annual Car Festival, symbolizing unity, devotion, and cultural heritage, saw enthusiastic participation from all sections of society. The sacred event was graced by key dignitaries including Tripura Tourism, Food and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
Extending their heartfelt greetings, both leaders expressed hope that Lord Jagannath’s divine blessings would guide the state and nation toward peace, prosperity, and progress.
The rituals began with the traditional ‘Pahind Vidhi’—the ceremonial sweeping of the path for the chariot—performed with reverence. This was followed by the deities, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, being brought out of the sanctum sanctorum and placed on the ornately decorated chariot.
Amidst devotional chants, traditional drumbeats, and a festive atmosphere, devotees pulled the chariot through the streets, continuing the age-old tradition of escorting the deities to their maternal aunt’s residence. The event reflected deep-rooted faith and unity among devotees.
Adding to the spiritual ambiance, similar rituals were also performed at the historic Jagannathbari temple in Agartala. This temple has been observing Rath Yatra celebrations since the era of the Manikya dynasty, highlighting the festival’s long-standing cultural significance in the region.
The grand procession, filled with joyous devotion and vibrant energy, made the occasion memorable for the people of Agartala, reinforcing the values of harmony, spirituality, and collective celebration.
