Today, TMP MLAs Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma were sworn in as Ministers of State in a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, administered by Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu

However, this decision has not been without controversy. Ganamukti Parishad state president Naresh Jamatia expressed strong disapproval during a press conference. He accused Tipra Motha of betraying the people, emphasizing that the party’s alignment with the BJP contradicted the anti-BJP sentiment among the populace. Furthermore, Jamatia taunted that Tipra Motha had joined forces with proponents of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a contentious issue in Indian politics.

Jamatia also criticized the party’s historical stance on the Greater Tipraland demand, which seeks a separate state for tribals under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution. He labeled the recent agreement between the central government, Tripura, and Tipra Motha as a mere “staged drama,” misleading the public for far too long.

In light of these developments, Jamatia called upon the people to unite and challenge the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The TMP’s decision to join the coalition has certainly added intrigue to the political landscape in Tripura.
