Agartala: In a recent development, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, announced the upcoming implementation of smart cards for all beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS). Speaking to the press during a distribution event for mustard oil in his own constituency, the Minister highlighted the department’s commitment to modernizing the entire public distribution system.

He expressed, “We have been actively exploring innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency of our public distribution system. One of our top priorities is the replacement of traditional paper ration cards with smart cards.” Minister Chowdhury emphasized that smart cards offer numerous advantages over their paper counterparts, such as improved durability and user-friendliness. Unlike paper cards, which are prone to wear and tear, smart cards are resilient and offer a longer lifespan for beneficiaries.
