In the details of the incident, Sudarshan Sharma, the government lawyer of the special court, said that on August 27, 2017, a minor girl went to fetch water from a nearby house in Sundhibasa area under Damchara police station. Then the minor was forcibly taken away from there by three young men named Gon Urang, Pintu Urang and Basia Urang. Three youths took her to a nearby forest and gang-raped her. Based on that complaint, later the minor daughter filed a rape case against the three youths at the Damchara police station. Damchara police started investigation after receiving the case under Section 376D of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POSCO Act.

Later they were arrested in this case. After a long year of trial in the special court of North District, the judge finally found Gon Urang and Pintu Urang guilty on the basis of a total of 21 witnesses. Basia Urang was acquitted in this case due to lack of witnesses. On Saturday, Special Court Judge Angshuman Debbarma ordered the accused to be sentenced to twenty years in prison under Section 376 and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000, six months imprisonment for non-payment of money. Similarly, the judge announced the same sentence under Section 6 of POSCO Act. The government lawyer said that the announcement of this kind of sentence in the case of rape of a minor will send a strong message to the society that no one will get away with the crime.
