Agartala, Aug 30: Former MP Rebati Tripura became the highlight of Sunday’s Raksha Bandhan celebrations at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel by voluntarily donating blood at a camp organised by the OPEN NSS Tripura unit.

Rebati Tripura’s gesture drew appreciation from dignitaries, youth volunteers and other participants, highlighting the spirit of service and social responsibility that marked the programme. His participation added a humanitarian dimension to the festive occasion, with the blood donation drive aimed at encouraging citizens, particularly young people, to come forward and contribute to the welfare of society.

The programme brought together the cultural celebration of Raksha Bandhan and a community-oriented blood donation initiative. Youth volunteers, community members and leaders participated in the event, which sought to promote the values of harmony, brotherhood and civic responsibility.

Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy attended the programme and praised the organisers for combining a traditional festival with a meaningful social initiative.

“The sacred bond of Rakhi spreads harmony, love, and brotherhood. Coupled with the noble act of voluntary blood donation, this initiative is truly commendable,” Roy said.

The celebrations were marked by a festive yet purposeful atmosphere. Raksha Bandhan rituals symbolised the bonds of unity and affection, while the blood donation camp highlighted the importance of extending those values into community service.

Organisers said the initiative was conceived to inspire young people to embrace both cultural traditions and their responsibilities towards society. They emphasised that voluntary blood donation can play a crucial role in helping patients in need and strengthening community support systems.

The participation of Rebati Tripura was seen as an encouraging example for the younger generation. Organisers expressed hope that the involvement of public representatives and community leaders would motivate more people to participate in voluntary blood donation and other welfare-oriented activities.

The NSS Tripura unit also reaffirmed its commitment to organising programmes that combine youth engagement with social welfare. Such initiatives, organisers said, would continue to focus on promoting harmony, compassion and a sense of civic duty among young people.

The event concluded with participants reiterating the message that festivals such as Raksha Bandhan can go beyond celebration and serve as opportunities to strengthen social bonds and contribute to the well-being of the wider community.
