Tripura recorded a 3.15 percent increase in tourist arrivals during the financial year 2025-26 compared with the previous year, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed the state Assembly on Thursday.

The figures were presented on the opening day of the monsoon session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in response to questions raised by MLAs Tofajjal Hossain and Antara Sarkar Deb.

According to the minister, Tripura received 5,45,299 tourists in 2023-24, including 4,69,328 domestic and 75,971 international visitors. Tourist arrivals increased to 7,07,173 in 2024-25, comprising 6,27,705 domestic and 79,468 international tourists.

In 2025-26, the state recorded a total of 7,29,414 tourist arrivals. Of these, 7,10,243 were domestic visitors, while 19,171 were international tourists. Chowdhury said the latest figures represented a 3.15 percent rise over the previous financial year.

The Tourism Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure across the state. Around 12 new small and medium tourism infrastructure projects have been developed, he informed the Assembly.

Work is also underway on five major tourism projects with a combined estimated cost of around Rs 400 crore. These include the 51 Shakti Peetha Park at Banduar in Udaipur, Chabimura, Narkelkunja, Sonamukhi in Unakoti and Jirania Park.

Responding to a supplementary question from MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Chowdhury said four small and medium tourism project locations fall under the jurisdiction of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

However, he clarified that there is currently no proposal to hand over tourism projects developed by the state government to the TTAADC.

The government is focusing on expanding tourism infrastructure and developing new destinations to attract more visitors and strengthen the sector’s contribution to Tripura’s economy.
