Agartala, Oct 26 : The Tripura government has intensified monitoring of the distribution of free sugar, flour and suji among ration card holders during October and November, with Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury directing officials to ensure timely delivery of the commodities to all eligible beneficiaries.
Chowdhury on Monday chaired a high-level virtual review meeting to assess the implementation of the welfare initiative announced under a recent Cabinet decision.
The meeting, held at the minister’s official residence, was attended by the Director of the Food Department, senior departmental officials and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) from different parts of the state.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress of distribution across various subdivisions and discussed operational challenges that could affect the timely supply of the food items to beneficiaries.
Chowdhury emphasised the need for effective coordination between the Food Department and field-level officials to ensure that ration card holders receive their entitled commodities without inconvenience.
He also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in the distribution process, directing officials to closely monitor the implementation of the initiative at the subdivision level.
The minister said the government’s objective was to ensure that the benefits of its welfare decisions reached the intended beneficiaries within the stipulated period.
He instructed the concerned authorities to identify and address bottlenecks that could disrupt distribution and take corrective measures wherever necessary.
The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination between the Food Department and the administration at the subdivision level to ensure uniform implementation of the programme across Tripura.
The free distribution of sugar, flour and suji for October and November follows a recent Cabinet decision and is intended to provide additional support to ration card holders during the festive season.
The government has stressed that all eligible households should receive the commodities within the designated period, with officials asked to remain vigilant about possible delays and other distribution-related difficulties.
Chowdhury called upon the officials to maintain close supervision of the process and ensure that administrative shortcomings did not deprive eligible beneficiaries of the assistance.
The review meeting was part of the government’s efforts to assess the progress of the welfare measure, resolve implementation-related issues and strengthen oversight across the state.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring the timely and transparent distribution of essential food commodities to eligible ration card holders during the two-month period.
