Tripura Moves to Expand Social Security Coverage for Workers

Agartala, June 22, 2026: Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving financial assistance of ₹3 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the advanced medical treatment and kidney transplant of a woman from Tripura.

The beneficiary, Mousumi Saha, a resident of Jogendranagar in Agartala, had sought financial support for her kidney transplantation and related medical expenses. According to Deb, the matter was brought to his attention by the patient’s family, following which he promptly forwarded the application to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for consideration.

In a social media post, the MP stated that the request received swift approval, providing much-needed financial relief to the patient and her family during a critical phase of treatment. He expressed sincere appreciation to Prime Minister Modi for extending timely assistance and demonstrating sensitivity towards the healthcare needs of citizens facing serious medical challenges.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again shown his commitment to helping people in distress. The approval of financial assistance for Mousumi Saha’s kidney transplant will provide significant support to her family during this difficult time,” Deb said.

The former Chief Minister further noted that this was not an isolated case. He remarked that on several previous occasions, applications seeking financial assistance for advanced medical treatment had been submitted through his office to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and had received positive consideration.

According to Deb, almost all such requests forwarded by him have been approved promptly, reflecting the compassionate approach adopted by the Central Government in addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable citizens. He emphasized that the PMNRF continues to serve as an important source of support for families struggling to bear the high costs of life-saving medical procedures.

The financial aid granted to Mousumi Saha is expected to ease the burden of treatment expenses and facilitate access to critical healthcare services. The development highlights the role of welfare mechanisms such as the PMNRF in providing timely assistance to patients requiring specialized and costly medical care.
