Agartala, May 15:
In a notable move aimed at promoting austerity and environmental responsibility, Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu has decided to reduce the size of his official motorcade beginning Friday. The decision was formally announced by Raj Bhavan in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for fuel conservation amid rising global energy concerns.

Officials said the Governor’s initiative is intended to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and send a strong message about responsible governance and sustainable practices. By scaling down the convoy accompanying him during official movements, the Governor seeks to encourage both public representatives and citizens to adopt practical fuel-saving measures in their daily lives.

According to Raj Bhavan officials, the move reflects a conscious effort to support national calls for austerity and efficient use of resources at a time when global fuel prices and energy-related uncertainties continue to affect economies worldwide. The decision is also being viewed as a symbolic gesture highlighting the importance of environmental awareness and accountability among constitutional authorities.

The Governor’s step comes shortly after similar measures were adopted by several ministers and public representatives in Tripura. In recent days, some state ministers have reduced the number of escort vehicles in their convoys, while others have used bicycles and e-rickshaws for short-distance travel as part of fuel conservation efforts.

Observers believe the Governor’s decision carries significant symbolic importance, particularly at a time when concerns over fuel consumption, environmental sustainability, and public expenditure are becoming increasingly relevant. By voluntarily reducing official protocol arrangements, the Governor has reinforced the message that leaders must set examples through their own actions.

Officials also noted that such measures, though modest individually, can collectively contribute to broader national goals of energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and environmental protection. The initiative is expected to encourage wider public participation in conservation efforts across the state.

The development reflects Tripura’s growing alignment with the Centre’s emphasis on sustainable governance and responsible resource management. Authorities expressed hope that the Governor’s gesture would inspire government departments, institutions, and citizens alike to adopt simple yet meaningful measures that support long-term ecological balance and fuel conservation.
