A vibrant sunflower orchard in Charilam has recently emerged as a major attraction, drawing large crowds from across the state. Visitors from distant places such as Jirania and Mohanpur are traveling long distances to witness the scenic beauty of the blooming fields. The orchard, filled with bright yellow sunflowers swaying gently in the open air, has become a favorite destination for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Hundreds of people have been visiting the site ყოველდღ, capturing photos and videos amidst the striking floral backdrop. The sudden surge in popularity is largely attributed to social media, where images and reels from the orchard quickly went viral, sparking widespread curiosity and interest.
The orchard belongs to farmer Sanjib Das, who has introduced a nominal entry fee of Rs 10 per visitor. In addition, he is selling sunflowers at a fixed price of Rs 100 per piece. Due to the overwhelming influx of tourists, local authorities have deployed police personnel to maintain order and ensure the safety of visitors.
Inspired by Das’s success, another farmer from the same locality, Chittaranjan Majumder, has also taken up sunflower cultivation. His orchard, located nearby, has similarly flourished and is attracting a steady stream of visitors. Together, the two farms have turned the area into a lively rural tourism spot.
Tourists can be seen enjoying their time, taking photographs, and creating video content that continues to gain traction online. Content creators, in particular, are flocking to the orchards to produce engaging visuals for their audiences.
Speaking about his journey, Das shared that the idea of cultivating sunflowers came from scientists at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. “I planted the seeds about two and a half months ago, and now nearly all the plants have matured. I am delighted by the response,” he said.
A local volunteer explained that the entry fee was introduced to offset potential losses caused by heavy footfall, ensuring that the farmer is fairly compensated while preserving the orchard.
