Agartala, March 15: Fresh political speculation has surfaced in Tripura after Tipra Motha Party leader and state Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma left for New Delhi on Sunday, triggering discussions about a possible shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Sources close to Debbarma confirmed that he is currently in the national capital and may meet some senior BJP leaders during his visit. However, despite repeated attempts by the media, Debbarma could not be reached for comments regarding the purpose of his trip.
According to sources, the minister’s visit is not related to any personal engagement, which has further fuelled speculation about possible political developments.
The development comes close on the heels of recent remarks made by Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman during a gathering at Khumulwng. In his speech, Debbarman reportedly stated that he had played a role in shaping the political careers of several leaders, including Animesh Debbarma, who has been active in politics for more than two decades.
In what many observers interpreted as an indirect reference, Debbarman also described those opposing him as “traitors of the community.” Political analysts believe that the statement, coupled with Debbarma’s recent absence from party meetings and TTAADC election campaign events, indicates a possible rift between the two leaders.
The situation gained further attention after an audio clip allegedly featuring Animesh Debbarma went viral on social media a few days ago. In the clip, he was heard expressing disappointment over the remarks made by the party supremo and suggesting that the leadership should reconsider its views about senior leaders who had supported the party through difficult times. However, the authenticity of the audio clip could not be independently verified.
Adding to the speculation, Debbarma recently removed a cover photo from his social media profile that featured him alongside Pradyot Kishore Debbarman.
Political observers believe the sequence of developments may signal a significant political shift in the coming days. Sources said Debbarma is expected to return to Tripura within the next few days.
