Agartala, Feb 7:
Governor of Tripura, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, on Friday morning inaugurated the procurement of paddy from farmers of the Jirania subdivision at the Madhabbari ISTT Complex, marking a significant step towards strengthening agricultural support and ensuring fair prices for farmers.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officials from the state administration, agriculture department, food and civil supplies department, along with local representatives and a large number of farmers from the subdivision. The initiative aims to procure paddy directly from cultivators at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), thereby safeguarding farmers from market fluctuations and exploitation by middlemen.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Nallu emphasized the importance of agriculture as the backbone of the state’s rural economy. He stated that the government is committed to empowering farmers by providing them with institutional support, timely procurement, and assured remuneration for their produce. The Governor also appreciated the efforts of the officials involved in organizing the procurement process in a transparent and farmer-friendly manner.
He urged farmers to take full advantage of government schemes and assured them that the administration would continue to work towards improving irrigation facilities, storage infrastructure, and access to modern farming techniques. Stressing on self-reliance in food grain production, the Governor said that initiatives like paddy procurement play a crucial role in ensuring food security and enhancing farmers’ income.
Officials informed that adequate arrangements have been made at the procurement centre to ensure smooth operations, including proper weighing, quality checks, and prompt payment to farmers’ bank accounts. Special measures were also put in place to avoid inconvenience and long waiting hours for farmers.
Local farmers expressed satisfaction over the commencement of the procurement drive and hoped that timely lifting of paddy and speedy payments would ease their financial burden.
The procurement drive at Madhabbari is part of a larger statewide initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and reinforcing the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers across Tripura.
