Agartala, Nov 17 — Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday underscored the importance of a well-planned and safe road network for Tripura’s economic growth and overall development. He stated that the state government is giving top priority to the timely completion of ongoing National Highway expansion projects to modernise connectivity and improve public convenience.

Chowdhury chaired a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the progress of the four-lane expansion of the Assam–Agartala National Highway (NH-8). The project covers the stretch from the Ranirbazar Fire Station to the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) at Madhabbari, falling under the Majlishpur Assembly constituency.

The meeting witnessed the presence of PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, senior officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and chief and supervising engineers from the PWD (National Highways) division. Officials made a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the status of the project and highlighting several technical and field-level constraints that are affecting progress.

The Transport Minister directed officials to resolve all land-related obstacles without delay, noting that such issues have been among the major factors slowing the expansion work. He instructed the departments concerned to identify the challenges on a priority basis and chart out feasible solutions to ensure the project stays within its scheduled timeline.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Chowdhury said improving Tripura’s road infrastructure remains a key focus area and essential for accelerating development initiatives across the state. He stressed that upgraded highways will not only strengthen connectivity with neighbouring states but also promote trade, tourism, and overall socio-economic welfare.

The Minister assured that the government will continue to monitor the progress closely and take necessary steps to remove hurdles, ensuring that citizens benefit from safer and more efficient transportation networks.
