In a shocking case of domestic violence, a woman identified as Adori Sarkar was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Sentu Sarkar, in the early hours of Sunday at Jharkharia village under Amtali Police Station limits.
According to local sources, the couple often engaged in heated altercations, and Sentu was known to assault his wife frequently. On Saturday night, another quarrel reportedly turned violent, leading to Adori’s tragic death.
The incident came to light when neighbours, alerted by loud noises and later discovering Adori’s lifeless body, detained Sentu and immediately informed the police. Acting promptly on the information, a team from Amtali Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das and supported by TSR personnel, reached the spot and took the accused into custody.
Senior police officials, including West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak and SDPO (Sadar Sub-Division) Paramita Pandey, also visited the scene to oversee the investigation.
Adori’s body was later shifted to Hapania Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case of murder against Sentu Sarkar, who is expected to be produced before the court on Monday.
The brutal killing has sparked widespread outrage in the locality. Residents of Jharkharia expressed deep anger and grief over the incident, demanding exemplary punishment for the accused. They urged authorities to ensure swift justice and take stronger measures to prevent domestic violence.
Meanwhile, police officials assured that a thorough investigation is underway and strict legal action will follow based on the post-mortem report and witness statements.
The case once again underscores the urgent need for awareness and intervention against domestic abuse, which continues to claim innocent lives despite repeated calls for social and legal reform.
