Agartala: Aug 8: A middle-aged couple, Kajal Sil and her husband, have approached the SDPO of Bishalgarh, Dulal Chandra Datta, seeking protection for their lives and property from an alleged human trafficking gang. The couple claimed that a group involved in trafficking Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had unlawfully occupied a portion of their land and posed constant threats to them.

Narrating her ordeal, Kajal Sil said, “Our land is located adjacent to the Indo-Bangla border and contains a bamboo grove, which is being misused by traffickers as a cover for their activities. We had objected to this, fearing legal consequences for harbouring illegal immigrants. Since then, our life has been a nightmare.”

She further alleged that armed miscreants, allegedly linked to the trafficking network, raided their house recently. “We had to flee from our home and take shelter in a nearby rubber garden to save our lives. The next day, they looted our house and stole cash and gold ornaments from my cupboard,” she said with teary eyes.

Despite filing a complaint at Madhupur police station, the couple alleged no effective action had been taken. In desperation, they approached the SDPO seeking intervention and protection.

The couple identified Mithan Sil and Litan Sil as the kingpins of the trafficking racket. According to them, both had been arrested earlier in connection with similar offences but were now operating freely.

The Sils urged the authorities to ensure strict action against the gang and provide security to their family. The incident highlights growing concerns over cross-border trafficking and the plight of common citizens living near international borders.
