Agartala, July 9: In a proactive step to enhance disaster readiness, West Tripura district on Wednesday conducted an extensive state-level mock drill simulating emergency rescue and relief operations. The exercise began at 7:30 a.m. and spanned across 13 designated locations in the district.

As part of the drill, 13 fully functional relief centers were set up, each managed by local authorities to replicate real-time emergency response conditions. The central staging area was established at the Hapania International Fair Ground near Amtali Police Station, serving as the operational hub for the large-scale simulation.

District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, who oversaw the entire exercise, said, “Around 1,000 personnel—including civic volunteers, emergency responders, and CRPF teams—were mobilized for the mock drill. An estimated 200–300 individuals were ‘rescued’ under simulated disaster scenarios.”

In total, over 1,500 participants took part in the operation, making it one of the most comprehensive disaster response simulations held in the state in recent years.

“The goal of this drill was to evaluate our current preparedness and identify areas that require improvement. The scale of the operation allowed us to simulate a coordinated, multi-agency response under emergency conditions,” Dr. Kumar stated.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) team was present to observe the proceedings and later provided valuable feedback. Their insights will be used to fine-tune Tripura’s disaster response protocols and strengthen inter-agency coordination.

The drill was declared a success by the district administration, highlighting the state’s ongoing commitment to disaster resilience and public safety. Officials noted that such exercises play a critical role in building community awareness, ensuring that systems and personnel remain well-prepared for real-life emergencies.
