Agartala, June 27: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said that the state has significantly reduced its unemployment rate, now standing at just 1.7%, well below the national average of 3.2%, according to the 2023-24 Periodic Labour Force Survey by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Speaking at a government event where appointment letters were distributed to 222 job aspirants in the school education and health departments, CM Saha highlighted the progress made since the BJP came to power in 2018. At that time, Tripura’s unemployment rate was 10% compared to the national average of 5.8%.

He noted that 19,484 people have secured government jobs in various departments over the past six years through a transparent and merit-based process. Additionally, more than 5,700 individuals have found employment through outsourcing, while thousands have been engaged in private security and other services.

The Chief Minister said that under the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation, 1,617 people were also provided jobs. The government continues to focus on improving the efficiency and skillsets of in-service employees, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. “The national efficiency level among government employees has increased from 33.95% to 54%, thanks to PM Modi’s initiatives,” he said.

Saha added that from January to June 2025, development projects worth over ₹638 crore have been inaugurated or launched across the state. He also emphasized the government’s focus on education, health, connectivity, and tribal welfare.

On June 23, Tripura achieved full literacy status with a literacy rate of 95.6%, becoming the third fully literate state in India after Mizoram and Goa.
