Agartala, June 17: Tripura Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath launched a sharp attack on Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday, accusing him of making “body-shaming” comments and using derogatory language against leaders of the BJP and its ally, Tipra Motha.
Speaking at the BJP state headquarters, Nath alleged that Chaudhury had insulted an entire group of people based on their physical appearance. “He made disparaging remarks suggesting that tall people are dull or unintelligent. This is not just an attack on individuals, but a classist slur,” Nath told reporters.
Highlighting the contributions of several tall personalities, Nath said, “Icons like Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Ishant Sharma, Biju Patnaik, and even former CM Manik Sarkar are proof that height has no connection to intellect. Jitendra Chaudhury’s comments were not only insensitive but baseless.”
Nath also criticized Chaudhury’s remarks against the BJP, Tipra Motha, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying the opposition leader had resorted to unprovoked name-calling. “He called the BJP and its allies liars. This kind of rhetoric reflects his growing desperation and frustration,” Nath claimed.
“If Chaudhury made these statements in a sound state of mind, he should publicly apologize. If not, the CPI(M) should take responsibility and ensure he receives appropriate treatment,” he added.
Nath further alleged that Chaudhury was previously dropped from the Manik Sarkar-led cabinet due to misconduct. “There was a file opened by late minister Anil Sarkar that details Chaudhury’s questionable actions, including the ginger scam during his tenure,” Nath claimed.
The minister’s remarks have added fuel to the already tense political atmosphere in Tripura, as the BJP continues to push back against opposition criticisms ahead of crucial political developments in the state.
