Agartala, May 28: As part of a nationwide agriculture awareness initiative ahead of the Kharif season, Tripura will launch the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from Thursday. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is scheduled to inaugurate the state-level campaign from Bishramganj, Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath announced at a press briefing at the Secretariat.

The campaign, set to run from May 29 to June 12, aims to educate farmers about various central and state government schemes, modern agricultural practices, organic farming, and advanced technologies. The Union Agriculture Minister is also expected to visit the state during the campaign.

Minister Nath informed that the ambitious awareness drive will cover 864 locations across Tripura, engaging over 1.72 lakh farmers. Each location will see three meetings per day, with the involvement of one progressive farmer and three local committees comprising experts from the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD), ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Agriculture College, Fisheries and Veterinary Colleges, and agricultural scientists.

To boost outreach and engagement, 24 specially designed ‘Krishi Raths’ will travel across the state, disseminating key messages and interacting with farmers.

Highlighting recent achievements, Nath stated that agricultural production in the state is expected to surpass previous records due to the adoption of modern technologies. He also noted a significant expansion in organic farming—from 2,000 hectares in 2018 to 20,000 hectares currently—since the formation of the new government.

The state is now focusing on promoting natural farming and integrating drone technology to further modernize its agricultural practices. The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ is expected to empower farmers with knowledge and tools to increase productivity and ensure sustainable agriculture in Tripura.
