Agartala: Mar 22: Residents of Agartala may face potential disruptions next week due to an upcoming movement advocating for the use of Roman script in the Kokborok language. On Monday, the Tribal Students’ Federation (TSF) is set to participate in a large gathering at the Gandhi statue near the Circuit House in Agartala to push for this demand. Concerns have been raised that the gathering could affect various parts of the city at the start of the workweek.
At a press conference, the TSF stated that the ongoing national highway blockade will continue until Monday. Representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of action by the state government in addressing the demands of the Tiprasas, which they described as long-standing and legitimate. They emphasized that repeated protests have become necessary due to the inaction of successive governments.
A youth organization of Tipra Motha has also announced its decision to join the gathering, stating that such measures would not have been required if the government had accepted their demands through peaceful dialogue. According to the organization, the current highway blockade has been conducted in a peaceful manner, with emergency services, including ambulances and essential shops, exempt from restrictions.
The youth organization reiterated its commitment to maintaining peaceful demonstrations and urged the public to participate in the bandh responsibly.
